REACH
REACH (The European Union's regulation for the R egistration, E valuation, A uthorisation and Restriction of Ch emicals) came in to force on the 1 st June 2007 and replaces multiple European directives and legislation with a single regulation.
It's primary aim is to protect human health and the environment which is also a core value of Lambson Limited.
In principle REACH applies to all chemicals: not only chemicals used in industrial processes but also in our day-to-day life, for example in cleaning products, paints, clothes, furniture and electrical appliances.
The REACH regulations state that “all manufacturers and importers of chemicals must identify and manage risks linked to the substances they manufacture and market. For substances produced or imported in quantities of 1 tonne or more per year per company, manufacturers and importers need to demonstrate that they have appropriately done so by means of a registration dossier, which shall be submitted to the E uropean Ch emical A gency ( ECHA )”.
Substances that were previously registered under EINECS (the E uropean In ventory of E xisting Commercial C hemical S ubstances), so called “phase in substances” , needed to be “pre-registered” with ECHA before the end of November 2008, in order to qualify for the transitional arrangement put in place for dossier registration.
Lambson Limited have successfully completed the pre-registration process for all of its phase-in substances and have decided, in line with the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC), that the pre-registration numbers will not be communicated for its substances. This is because a pre-registration number alone does not guarantee compliance for substances or products with the REACH Regulations.
